Happy Birthday to ya Stevie Wonder!!! My favorite musical genius was born 63 years ago today as Steveland Hardaway Judkins (his last name was later changed to Morris) in Saginaw, Michigan. In this 1974 photo, he is performing his classic “Living For The City” on “Top Of The Pops” in London. Photo: David Warner Ellis/Redferns. In the comment section, let me know what your favorite Stevie song is (Is it possible to have just one?)

rollingstone:

How did you get the name Wonder?
It was given to me by Berry Gordy. They didn’t like “Steve Morris” so they changed it.
Were there some alternatives?
”Little Wonder” … “Wonder Steve … ” I think we should change it to Steveland Morris [laughs]. That would put a whole different light on everything.
Happy 63rd birthday Stevie Wonder! Read our 1973 interview with the singer where he talks about the beginnings of his career and 11 years later, being in absolute control of it.
